Global (The Third Conditional)

GLOBAL
The Third Conditional
if + past perfect, ...would + have + past participle
·         If she had studied, she would have passed the exam (but, really we know she didn't study and so she didn't pass)
·         If I hadn't eaten so much, I wouldn't have feltsick (but I did eat a lot, and so I did feel sick).
·         If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn't have missed the plane
·         She wouldn't have been tired if she had goneto bed earlier
·         She would have become a teacher if she had gone to university

“Hope” y “Wish”
I hope (that) it’s true. – Ojala sea verdad.
I wish (that) it were true. – Ojala fuera verdad.
I wish (that) it had been true. – Ojala hubiera sido verdad.
Hope Vs. Wish
Hope and wish have very similar meanings. We use them to express our desire for something different from how it is now. In a nutshell, hope mainly expresses a desire that is possible or likely to happen. Wish usually expresses a desire that is impossible or unlikely to happen. To express a future desire, hope usually takes a simple present verb, and wish mostly follows the pattern of the second conditional (i.e., using would and other past patterns). In the past, wish follows the pattern of the third conditional (i.e., using had + p.p.).

Ejemplos
The interview went quite well, so I hope I get the job  = La entrevista fue bastante bien, así que espero que consiga el trabajo
I hope it´s a nice day on Sunday to go for a bike ride  = Espero que haga un día bueno para hacer un paseo en bic

Ejemplos
I wish I were rich and travel around the world  = Ojala fuera rico y viajar por el mundo

I wish I could travel all over the world for one year  = Ojala pudiera viajar por todo el mundo durante un año.
